‘May I please speak to Chief Jesse Hubbard please?’Yvonne says to Brot who is on desk duty at the police station
‘May I tell him what this is regarding Chief Hubbard is a busy man! Brot says
‘It’s personal he knows me very well were old friends from Pine Valley. See!’ Yvonne says showing a picture battered and worn in her wallet of Jesse and Yvonne side by side over 21 years ago!
“Wow! The chief was sure young then!’Says Brot
‘We were all young once.’ Yvonne says regretfully
‘Well may I say Madame you haven’t changed a bit you still look the same.’ lies Brot flattering Yvonne who is still a very beautiful woman though older
‘Well is Jesse here?’Demands Yvonne
‘Yes certainly Madame.’ Says Brot ’Chief you have a surprise visitor someone visiting from out of town! No But I think you’ll like the surprise Chief.’
‘Hi Brot when are you off duty?’ You owe me a date!’Natalia says coming into the station
‘Soon but I’m helping this lady here she’s here to see your dad.’ Brot says
‘Really? You’re Jesse’s daughter? Is Angie your mother? Asks Yvonne
‘No. My mom passed away!’Natalia says ’I’m Detective Natalia Fowler and you are?’ asks Natalia
‘Yvonne Caldwell I took back my name after my divorce!’ Yvonne says ‘It’s so nice to meet Jesse’s daughter.’
‘Do you know my father well?’ quizzes Natalia as Brot hides his face behind his hands as not to laugh
‘Yes actually I do we knew each other a long time ago! A lifetime ago I knew his brother Eugene too. He was a bad one! Sorry he’s your Uncle but them I’m not telling you anything you don’t all ready know I’m sure!’
‘Dad never talked about his brother I didn’t know he had one!’Natalia says
‘He probably wishes he didn’t after what he blackmailed me into doing! I did apologize to Angie and Jesse for my part though. Angie was so sweet to me. She’s a peach.’ Says Yvonne
‘Are you saying that my Dad had a fling with you while he was with Angie?’ asks Natalia
‘As if your Dad would look at another woman when he had Angie except.. er... your mom’ Covers Yvonne
‘Yes well Angie has always had his heart even if he did love my Mom .’Natalia
‘Natalia? And Yvonne Caldwell? Holy Toledo look what the wind blew in! Lord all mighty it’s good to see you!’Jesse hugging her
‘Good to see you too Jess!’Says Yvonne
‘I see you met my daughter. Did you met her fiancé Brot? ’asks Jesse pointing to Brot as Natalia blushes.
‘Wow you’re a lucky man Jesse.’ Yvonne says
‘Bye Natalia see you later dinner my house Angie .Frankie ,Randi and Andrew and of course you too Brot.Time for fireworks hotdogs barbeque!Happy 4th of July stuff! ‘says Jesse to Natalia
‘Okay bye dad’ says Natalia with a look that says are you sure I should leave you with this woman? Then she leaves with Brot as Brot’s replacement takes over the desk
In the hallway Natalia takes out her phone ”Angie I think you should get over to Dad’s office .’
‘Why is that Natalia?’ asks Angie
‘There’s someone visiting Jesse you have to see!’’Natalia insists
‘Is the mayor back and hounding Jesse?’Asks Angie
‘No Angie it’s a blast from yours and Jesse’ past. And her name is Yvonne Caldwell.’ Says Natalia
‘Yvonne Caldwell? Wow that is a blast from the past! I’m sure Jesse can handle this but I’ll be there soon.”Angie says leaving to go to the station from the hospital
‘Did you have to do that Natalia?’ asks Brot “maybe Jesse would refer not to involve Angie.’ Says Brot
‘You had better not keep anything like this from me when were married Brot Monroe.’ Says Natalia
‘’I wouldn’t dream of it.’ Says Brot
Jesse’s office
‘So of the all towns you choose mine what’s up Yvonne?’Jesse asks
‘I had wanted to ask yours and Angie’s help with this.....’Yvonne says clearly having trouble getting out the words
‘Spit it out Yvonne what’s going on?’Asks Jesse
‘It’s a long story Jesse. I fell for a guy oldest story in the book he was married to a powerful woman. I thought he loved me was leaving his wife for me....but he wasn’t. I was with him for awhile years as he promised me the world. He offered me a record contract and I fell for it! He said the company would produce my voice I would be big star! But he lied! I got pregnant and had the most beautiful little girl .And I walked away from him because I I reached out to him because I was sick and couldn’t work just asking for some money for I knew he was never going to be there for us I was working getting gigs singing managing putting a roof over my head and my beloved daughter’s
. My little girl was seven when I got the breast cancer. I was so sick with breast cancer my body was ravished .I grew gaunt and my hair fell out from the radiation. I was sure I was going to die the doctors gave me six months. I fought hard and was feeling like I was winning the battle. That scum her daddy just swooped in I thought he was just helping out when I was so sick! I should have known he was getting rid of the evidence of his infidelity so his wife didn’t find out about her! He took her out the one day and didn’t come back! I called everywhere searching for my daughter
He was sure I was dying and they’d make him take her ,his wife would find out she existed!! So he gave her away! Like she was a stuffed animal! My baby! Those awful social workers claimed he said I was dead. When I said that was impossible that she was mine that I would die for her. They said it was too late she was gone!
I went out of my mind a little my little girl was missing. I took a gun I went to her Daddy and begged him to help me! I thought the gun would let him to tell me where he had used his influence to get her transferred to! He laughed at me he said he wasn’t even sure she was his and besides what good was I with no breasts! Besides I was a corpse he said I lost it. I took that gun and I held it at him but chickened out and put it away. I said find my little girl now call them and make them give her back! He laughed at me again and said she’d be better off without me that I was easy! That I was going to die anyway! I told him that I was expecting to hear that I was soon to be cancer free! He said it didn’t matter I’d never find her. His wife Iris had seen to it she’d helped him with his problem! I pulled out the gun again and we fought over the gun as I begged for information of where she was ! It went off and killed him dead! The police came I went to jail! The lawyer was paid by the state and gave no defence I got 20 years! But I got out of jail a month ago and picking up a magazine I saw her! I saw my daughter alive well and here in Happy Valley!’Yvonne says dabbing her eyes
‘Oh Yvonne I am so sorry .Only someone who lost over twenty years with his family would understand what you’ve gone through. I’m so sorry Yvonne How can I help?’ Jesse says sympathetically
‘Jess, I know where she is but I need your help to help get close to my little girl so I can explain this to her. She thinks I’m dead and when she sees me alive without knowing the whole story she’ll hate me!’Yvonne explains
‘Yvonne I thought Angie and Frankie would hate me too but when I explained they accepted it and forgave the lost years we’re closer than ever.Says Jesse
‘Jesse my daughter is someone close to you and Angie. Jesse my daughter is Randi!’Says Yvonne just as Angie walks into Jesse office and hears this and her face shows it.
