Happy Valley -Andrew –Part 16

Happy Valley -Andrew –Part 16
Frankie goes into Randi’s room and finds her struggling to wake. She awakens and tries to ask about the baby.

“The baby is fine.” Frankie says proudly
“A fine healthy baby boy. Martin was 8lbs 6oz but he’s all ready gaining weight.”
Randi tries to say Martin but all that comes out is “Mwa,Mwa”
“I’ll go get our baby in a minute Randi. Do you understand what’s happened? You’ve had a stroke. Can you move your right hand or leg?”Frankie asks
Randi tries to do both when she doesn’t succeed a small tear escapes her eye.
“It’s going to be okay Randi. I’ve got the best doctor and a team that will work with you to help you get some of your abilities back. It will be hard work but you are tough and I know you will try hard for martin and my sake.” Frankie says looking determined to support Randi
“Howa?’Randi says
“They will give you exercises to get your hand working your leg working and your brain working again. Your brain will work on this and will rewire and help you learn how to do these things again.”Frankie promises “I know it’s scary Randi but I promise I will help you all I can.”
“WY?” asks Randi
“It just happened Babe. Too much pressure and something had to give.”Frankie says “I’m going to get your doctor and Martin now .You hold tight.”
Frankie goes out in the hall and we see him lose control wiping tears from his eyes he didn’t want Randi to see
“Are you okay Frankie? Is Randi okay?”Tad asks worried spotting Frankie carrying coffee he hands one to Frankie
“She’s been hit hard .She is having trouble speaking and she can’t move her right side including her right hand and leg.”Frankie says “how am I going to hold it together Uncle Tad how am I going to be strong for her?”
“It’s hard on you but think how much harder it is for her? She needs every bit of your strength if you love her, and I know you do you have to gather strength from those who you and support her every step with encouragement and love.”Tad says hugging Frankie
“Thanks Tad.” Frankie says “I needed that kick in the pants. Randi needs me not to be a little boy but a man and so does my son. So I’m going to pick myself up and help my wife.”
“You all ready are a man son. One of the best men I know. I know you can do this but if you need someone to lean on or some help we’ll all be there for you all of us who love you and Randi.”Tad says ”in the meantime Dottie sent this for you with orders to eat this all.”
“Tell Dottie I said thanks!”Frankie says”but I couldn’t possibly eat.”
“You need to eat to keep up the strength you’re going to use to support your family. So eat Dr .Dottie’s orders and we don’t cross Dr. Dottie.” Tad says with mock serious which makes Frankie laugh
“All right hand it over Tad!”Frankie says and then begins eating. He finishes and then says
“I have to go get Martin and bring him to Randi. See you later Tad and thanks again.”
We see him go down the corridor towards the nursery wing
“Thanks Tad and thank Dottie that’s the first thing I’ve seen him eat other than a muffin and coffee in the last two days.” Angie says quietly to Tad
“So how did Frankie say Randi was today?”
“He said she was awake aware and her right side was affected as well as her speech like they expected.” Tad says
“Is Frankie okay?”Asks Angie worried sick
“No but he is pulling on as much strength as he has to support Randi. We’ll stand by him and support him and Randi will get better.”Tad says
“From your mouth to God’s ears.” Angie says
Frankie comes back with Martin and at first Randi is afraid to let him see her but Martin grabs her finger.
‘Bwful” Says Randi
“Yes our son is beautiful .He is one handsome guy. The nurse said she was beating off the baby girls with a stick.”Frankie says which gets a laugh out of Randi
Frankie holds Martin in Randi’s arms and she smiles crookedly at him .Frankie smiles at the scene they make realizing his wife hasn’t left him she’s still in there and that Martin is happy with his mother.
