The phone rings and Aaron answers
"What what do you mean I'm not eligible for the football scholarship .You said I had it!I'd planned on being a California Golden bear in the fall! How about UC Davis? But I'm a good football player why don't they want me now?Come on Coach do you know what's going on?'"You don't you think you can get me a scholarship for where anywhere but you're trying for a UC Trojan?But it doesn't have a great reputation!I know I know beggars can't be choosers .My grades ?I have to get better grades to get in there?But why doesn't my quarterbacking speak for itself!You think someone has it in for me? Why? Everybody likes me I'm a good guy!Okay Coach I'll hit the books Bye now!"says Aaron hanging up the phone and quickly dialing his mom's office
"Mom I can't go anywhere for Spring break I know I said I take some time and go to NYC and visit Uncle Jon with you and Uncle Ryan!But I can't !
"why not you said you go with me !I want you to meet my brother Jon!'insists Caitlin
"I can't! I'm in trouble mom I just heard my scholarship has been taken away!"
"Why would they take away your scholarship Aaron? What did you do Aaron?'demands Caitlin
"Mom I swear I didn't do anything my grades have slipped a bit but why they took away my scolarship for the fall is beyond me!Coach seems to think someone has it in for me!'"but I've done nothing to make anyone do this!'
"I'm not happy about this Aaron McGillis you need that sholarship! How can I trust you if I go by myself with Ryan and Emma? Will you behave no parties no Kathy over and bring up your grades?'asks Caitlin
'Yes I really want to go to university Mom and it looks like my only opportuntity is to be UC Trojan playing football thanks to Dad and his debts you can't pay the fees!'says Aaron
"I'm sorry I'm in so much debt still Aaron! Th medical costs alone for your father and then all those other debts he racked up!Caitlin breaks off here
"I'll get a scholarship Mom I know I can'says Aaron sounding contrite and beaten
"Well then I'm sure with a little work you can get the scholarship back!And then I won't have to worry!Jon is paying my way to NYC he was going to pay yours!He's working pretty hard on Wall Street as a stockbroker!He's taking off a week though to spend with us!I'm so excited I haven't seen him in years!'states Caitlin
"I know Mom I'm glad you get to see your brother!Don't worry I promise I'll be good!I'm an adult I do know how to behave!' says Aaron"and I'm going to get my grades up and get that scolarship I can't be a accountant without education!'
"Well at least your math grades are phenomenal!'says Caitlin
"Yes but my English grade is hovering around a pass mark!'says Aaron
"Can Kathy help you?'asks Caitlin
"No were not talking !'says Aaron
"Since when ?'asks Caitlin
"We broke up after we babysat the Dillon kids!"says Aaron"and I haven't heard anything from her!'
"I had no idea you didn't know?says Caitlin breaking off trying to find the right words" Aaron have you been so busy with school and football you didn't hear ?'asks Caitlin
"What are you talking about Mom?'asks Aaron
"Kathy and her new stepmother Dottie were kidnapped a week ago by Billy Clyde Tuggle!'says Caitlin
"What why am I just hearing this now? did they find them?'asks Aaron upset
"They found them but not him!'He's still at a large!'says Caitlin
"But she safe now?'asks Aaron
"Kathy was injured in the accident where thye recovered her and Dottie.Dottie has been released but Kathy's still in hospital!I guess her injuries were more severe!Emily-Ann Sago Martin who was also kidnapped died!"says Caitlin
"Oh my god Mom you should have told me!"I have to go to Kathy!'says Aaron
"I'm sorry honey I thought you knew!'says Caitlin
"You're never home anymore your always working!complains Aaron
"I know and I'm sorry I'm trying to get out of debt!'says Caitlin
"sometimes it's like I live alone!'complains Aaron
"I'm sorry Aaron I'm so close to pay down the debt enough so it's mangeable!"
"I know mom sorry for complaining !Are you sure I shouldn't get a job and help you?'asks Aaron
"No you need to bring up your marks and get that scholarship that's wht's important now!'says Caitlin
"Okay Mom I will don't stress !First though I'm going to see Kathy!I have to see her for myself!'says Aaron
"I understand sweetie but get that homework done okay!'says Caitlin
"Yes! Don't nag me mom!says Aaron irritated
"Don't you talk to me like that!I'm not nagging I'm not the one who did something to lose a scholarship!"says Caitlin clearly nagging and angry
"I know Mom I'll make it right!Bye see you later'says Aaron fed up and hanging up the phone then he says to himself"She's never here and it's so hard !why doesn't Mom realize how hard I try ?Why is it never enough?Nobody knows what she's really like! They think she's such a perfect mom!When I have a kid they'll come first!and I'll never nag them!""or put my hands on them!"then he puts on his jacket and shuts the front door headed for the hospital and Kathy.
